Prepare for funeral
In the event of a death
Slaattene Funeral Home arranges all types of ceremonies/funerals regardless of faith. Ceremonies conducted under the Church of Norway in the Arendal district take place in one of our beautiful churches or in Arendal Chapel and Crematorium. Arendal Chapel is not a non-religious venue, but all residents of Arendal municipality may use it as a ceremony hall at no additional cost. Arendal Chapel and Crematorium are located at Arendal’s beautiful main cemetery, Høgedal.
Arendal Free Church, the Mission Church, the Baptist Church, Filadelfia, and others have their own fine church buildings that their members use, but anyone can use Arendal Chapel.
The practical aspects of a funeral
The funeral home takes care of the transportation of the deceased after death. If this happens outside of a hospital, nursing home, or institution, Slaattene Funeral Home has a 24-hour emergency phone service at 370 59 165.
Contact us to arrange a meeting so we can plan the ceremony the way you wish—whether for a burial or cremation. Most of the following elements will be included regardless of what is chosen.
The day, place, and time of the ceremony are the first things to decide. Who will be listed as responsible for the funeral if there are several family members on the same family line? What does it mean to be responsible for the funeral? Burial or cremation, contact with speaker/priest, organist/musician, church office, preparation of the death notice, choice of songs/hymns for the ceremony. Should there be a song booklet (a program) or hymn book? A new grave or a family grave? Who holds the grave lease and has the right to use the grave site? It must also be decided who will carry the coffin, who will give thanks for the participation, and what type of coffin to choose. – Yes, there are many decisions to make.
During the ceremony
When you choose Slaattene Funeral Home, you also choose security and expertise in a difficult time. We assist with everything for the ceremony and offer a wide selection of programs with different designs. You may also have a program with your own picture on it. These are produced at a local print shop.
We contact the priest or funeral speaker and arrange further contact with the family.
Our own flower shop, Slaattene Blomster, provides all types of funeral floristry. We create everything from traditional arrangements to very special designs. All employees in the flower shop are highly skilled and certified.
Singing and music are an important part of the ceremony. We are happy to provide advice and guidance. The funeral home can also arrange contact with soloists/musicians.
